CalSTRS Team-Build architect, Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, Inc. – HOK – prepared these architectural drawings for the CalSTRS new headquarters building.

This is the view from the River Walk looking toward the office tower, which is to the left with the public function areas below. The entry lobby and café are at the ground level of the tower. These areas overlook the park and river promenade. The parking structure and service dock façade are to the right. The public function areas, loading dock and parking structure are at the foreground of this view with the office tower rising above. The tower is clad in a palette of metals and glass with continuous horizontal windows, which bring natural light into the building. The parking structure is clad in perforated metal panels, which screen the structure and cars within and provide for natural ventilation. A glass tower rises, showing the south tower facing the river, the park in front and the River Walk. On the right is the multi-story entry level, designed with tall ceilings, to house public functions, such as a board room, training rooms and meeting rooms. The tower is designed with its longitudinal axis oriented in the east to west direction to maximize access to natural light and to minimize direct solar heat gain into the building. The landscape integrates a number of existing trees on the site.
This is a view of the office tower, the main lobby and the public function areas at the ground level from the River Walk. The tower features a gently curved façade reminiscent of a ship’s sail. This is a view from the Third Street sidewalk. Beyond the landscaped surface parking lot is the parking garage façade, with the office tower rising above it. All existing trees along the Third Street sidewalk will be preserved and new street trees will be planted. Plans are to develop a pedestrian promenade and arrival plaza adjacent to a landscaped open space along F Street. Open space that is situated in front of the main lobby area will feature both California native and drought-tolerant ornamental plants. The café outdoor dining terrace is located in a garden setting, facing the River Walk. River Walk will be accessible to the public from F Street.
