How will you spend your future?

The cost to purchase permissive service credit depends on your highest earnable salary in the last three years of CalSTRS-covered employment, the amount of service you wish to purchase, and the current permissive service credit contribution rate (the contribution rate for the 2003/2004 fiscal year is 16.497%)

Beginning July 1, 2004, the cost to purchase permissive service credit increases substantially. This increase more accurately reflects the actual cost of the benefit. To buy permissive service credit before the cost goes up, you must send your request form to CalSTRS with a postmark before July 1, 2004.

Notes:

The contribution rate is changed periodically by the Teachers' Retirement Board to reflect changes in the cost of the benefits provided by the Defined Benefit Program.

Additional regular interest will be added to the cost of this purchase if you are not a current-contributing member of the CalSTRS Defined Benefit Program.
