Benefits counseling appointments provide members with general and personalized information and guidance on retirement and
disability benefits. Appointments are personalized for each member depending on career stage; whether they are:
- Not yet eligible to retire or are just starting their career
- Eligible and ready to retire within the next 12 months
- Eligible, but not yet ready to retire
- Considering going on disability
CalSTRS benefit counselors will:
- Provide personalized retirement benefit estimates
- Offer in-depth information about CalSTRS benefits programs
- Assist members by appointment:
- At a local counseling office
- Over the telephone

Before scheduling an appointment, there are a few steps to take.
- Plan Ahead
Benefits counseling appointments are scheduled four weeks in advance in most cases.

| CalSTRS offers counseling appointments at field offices throughout the state. This type of appointment provides an
opportunity to meet in person with a counselor. | CalSTRS offers telephone appointments for those members
who either do not live near a CalSTRS field office or who find it more convenient to have the appointment via telephone. |
| For an appointment, retirement counseling material and specific retirement information
requested will be provided to the member during the appointment. |

requested will be mailed to the member prior to the appointment. |
