A telephone counseling appointment provides an opportunity to speak over the telephone with a benefits counselor to discuss retirement benefits.

Telephone counseling appointment operating hours are below. Appointments are not available on State holidays.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Gather the following personal information before scheduling an appointment.

  • Identification
    Benefit counseling appointments are personalized to each member. Prior to conducting the telephone appointment, the benefits counselor will ask you a series of questions to verify your identity. The counselor may ask you to provide your:
    • First and last name
    • Complete mailing address
    • Client ID or SSN
    • Date of birth

  • Projected Retirement Date
    The date you would like to retire.


  • Employment Status
    • Full-time
    • Part-time
    • Any expected employment status changes

  • Number of Unused Sick Leave and Annual Contract Days


  • Other California Public Retirement Systems
    If you plan to also retire another retirement system, have the highest salary from the other retirement system ready for your counselor.


  • Election of Beneficiary Option
    • Name
    • Relationship
    • Date of birth
