On May 20, 2005, myCalSTRS hit a milestone: 100,000
registered users. Of the 755,000 CalSTRS members and benefit
recipients, 100,000 have registered for online access to their
personal retirement account information via myCalSTRS.
The 100,000th CalSTRS member to register is an active member
currently teaching in the Sacramento City Unified School District.
Within minutes of going live on August 27, 2003, CalSTRS
members were on the CalSTRS Web site registering for myCalSTRS.
Since the initial launch, CalSTRS has continued to release
new features and enhancements. One of the primary focuses
has always been to ensure the highest level of security for
member’s data.
Some of the features currently available to CalSTRS members:
- Annual Statement Documents (select years) - Annual Statements
and Estimate Letters.
- Form 1099-R Documents (select years) - Form 1099-Rs and
Acknowledgement Letters.
- Tax Withholding - Elections selected.
- Benefit Payments - Year-to-Date totals and Net Payments.
- Retirement information - Option beneficiaries, option
selections, account history status, coverage type, or death
benefit recipients.

The newest feature is Online Messaging. This feature provides
registered myCalSTRS users with the ability to securely
send and receive confidential information or get answers to
personal account questions. This secure communication vehicle
exemplifies CalSTRS commitment to keeping member data and
information secure. Since the release of Online Messaging,
CalSTRS averages 2400 online messages each month.
In the future, CalSTRS plans to add features that will provide
new and improved services to its members. Some of these features
include the ability to change tax withholdings and direct
deposit information. Also, a major effort is underway to place
the retirement application online. This functionality will
allow the member to complete and submit a retirement application
and all accompanying forms online.
Graphs are based on data for the 100,000 CalSTRS members
