Option factors are periodically reviewed by the Teachers' Retirement Board and are changing effective January 1, 2010.

If you elect an option and your disability benefit effective date is on or after January 1, 2010, your benefit amount, and the benefit to your option beneficiary, will be lower than previous quotes you may have received. We will send corrected quotes to members who apply for disability and are impacted by the change once the exact factors are available. In the interim, if you have already received a quote from CalSTRS:

• Return the quote with your completed election based on the quote provided, which is accurate for benefit effective dates prior to January 1, 2010.
• You can, until your benefit effective date, keep your original election, select a different option or change to a Member-Only benefit.

The member-only benefit is not affected by the change in option factors.
