CalSTRS offers workshops to help members understand all of the CalSTRS benefits available.

Each workshop is designed around the needs of educators at different career stages. Review the workshop descriptions below and find the right one for you.

Workshop Dates

Workshop registration is temporarily unavailable. All workshops will be held on a first come, first served basis.

Check the schedules below one business day prior to the workshop as times and locations are subject to change. Arrive early as seating is limited due to venue capacity.

Workshop Descriptions

  • Demystifying CalSTRS
    (For new educators)

    Are you a beginning teacher? This one-hour workshop introduces members to CalSTRS membership with a focus on the three benefits available.

    This workshop is also a prime learning opportunity for those who have never attended a CalSTRS workshop.


  • CalSTRS Fundamentals
    (For members 10 to 15 years from retirement)

    Beginning your retirement planning in earnest? This 1½ hour workshop gives members the essentials of CalSTRS membership and teaches about member benefits as the foundation of a personal financial plan.


  • CalSTRS Retirement Check-Up
    (For members 3 to 5 years from retirement)

    If you’re getting close to retirement, CalSTRS Retirement Check-Up is for you. This 1½ hour workshop includes details on how member retirement benefit is calculated, the retirement process and the required steps needed to take towards CalSTRS retirement.


  • Retirement Income Management
    (For members age 45 years or older)

    Do you know all the factors that can affect your retirement income? This workshop is designed for members getting ready to retire or those already retired.

    Learn important retirement income planning concepts that will affect retirement success; the four potential sources of retirement risk; ways to identify retirement expenses; the five steps to preserving and protecting retirement income.
