Retired Members May be Eligible for Option
and Annuity Changes (cont.)

Depending on the election you made at retirement, you may have an opportunity to review and change your option or annuity during a special window period between January 1 and June 30, 2007. If you have previously selected an option and are eligible to change this option, you will receive a letter notifying you of this opportunity.
There is no action necessary unless you have received this notice. The letter will contain a personalized list of the choices available to you and the estimated impact of each choice on your monthly benefit. Eligible members are not required to make any changes and can keep their original option or annuity election if desired.

If you are eligible to make an option change, CalSTRS has dedicated a number of resources to assist you in making an informed decision prior to the June 30, 2007 deadline.

  • Call the Option Change Information Center toll-free
    at 866-245-9394.

  • Schedule an appointment with a benefits counselor. You can arrange to meet by phone or at a benefits counseling office near you. During a 20- to 30-minute interview, a counselor will describe the option changes, answer questions and review your election document for accuracy. Call CalSTRS or your local benefits counseling office to schedule an appointment.

  • CalSTRS will also be conducting 40 specialized workshops on this subject from February through April 2007 at various locations throughout the state. Please check www.CalSTRS.com for updates on times and locations.
