A significant way that CalSTRS engages with stakeholders is through CalSTRS’ biennial materiality survey. The survey is sent to our executives, members, employees, business partners and other stakeholders to collect their feedback on our most relevant business initiatives.
With these responses, CalSTRS prepares a sustainability report that outlines the years’ performance and direction of CalSTRS under each of these prioritized material topics. This strategy allows CalSTRS to focus our communications and business plans on the most critical aspects of our day to day efforts.
The 2016 materiality survey produced the following results:
Top three topics ranked by stakeholder group
|1||Retirement Preparedness||Cybersecurity||Sustainability-Related Investment Risk||Cybersecurity|
|2||Cybersecurity||Organizational Transparency||Organizational Transparency||Ethics and Compliance|
|3||Ethics and Compliance||Ethics and Compliance||Ethics and Compliance||Workforce Development, Employee Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion|
* Executives rated topics according to impact to CalSTRS.
