How CalSTRS Honors Earth Day

Started as a grassroots effort in 1970, Earth Day grew out of concern for the environment and continues to enjoy mainstream support today. People and organizations throughout the world hold activities to mark this annual celebration every April 22, and CalSTRS too, honors this occasion. The idea behind Earth Day serves to inspire responsibility towards protecting our environment.

The second annual CalSTRS 2014–15 Sustainability Report: Fostering a Secure Future documents a framework CalSTRS developed to ensure its long-term viability as a sustainable organization.

Prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative’s G4 framework, the report is a result of stakeholder engagement and feedback, which was instrumental in prioritizing the report content and analyzing organizational performance.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California State Teachers’ Retirement System today announced the release of its second annual Global Reporting Initiative sustainability report: Fostering a Secure Future. The report provides an overview of CalSTRS’ sustainable practices and performance, including overviews of stakeholder, employee and member engagement; a description of the alignment between CalSTRS’ values and those of its business partners; and, examples of workforce activities promoting sustainable economic, environmental and social business practices, which guide its long-term strategy.
