Ms. Kim will lead a staff of 12 that oversees a $105.8 billion global equity portfolio, representing 57 percent of the CalSTRS investment portfolio. Ms. Kim succeeds Trish Taniguchi who held the position from 2010 to 2013. Elleen Okada preceded Taniguchi as director from 1997 to 2008.
“June’s qualifications, experience and poise quickly made her our top candidate in this highly-competitive, nationwide search,” said CalSTRS Chief Investment Officer Christopher J. Ailman. “I welcome June to our investment leadership ranks and look forward to benefiting from her knowledge and experience in our tactical and strategic decision making processes.”
Ms. Kim comes to CalSTRS with 19 years of investment experience, having spent the last seven and a half years as principal investment officer for global equities at the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA).
