CalSTRS Opens Member Center in Glendale
The center is the first in Southern California to serve both active and retired members
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA – The California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) today announced the opening of its first full-service member center outside of the West Sacramento headquarters.
The center is located at 505 N. Brand Blvd., Suite 200, two blocks from the Ventura Freeway (Highway 134) and two miles from the Golden State Freeway (Interstate 5).It serves the largest concentration of CalSTRS active and retired members in the state.
The Glendale Member Service Center provides:
- Benefits counseling, workshops and walk-in assistance.
- Increased counselor availability with office hours Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday hours by appointment.
- Drop-off and review of all CalSTRS retirement-related forms.
- Access to CalSTRS Pension2® information and staff.
- Convenient freeway access and secure free parking.
“Paramount to ensuring a positive retirement planning experience is listening and responding to the needs of our members. Even as internet self-service expands, we never forget that CalSTRS members consider counseling a vital part of their overall retirement experience. We know counseling is where the best retirement decisions are made. Localized full-service member centers, like Glendale, increase counseling availability.” said Jack Ehnes, chief executive officer. “We have a staff of 14 to meet the center’s expected services volume. And the office building, which is LEED® (External Link) certified, aligns with CalSTRS imbued culture of sustainability.”

The California State Teachers’ Retirement System, with a portfolio valued at $146.2 billion as of November 30, 2011, is the largest teacher pension fund and second largest public pension fund in the United States. CalSTRS administers a hybrid retirement system, consisting of a traditional defined benefit, cash balance and defined contribution plan, as well as disability and survivor benefits.
