Trust CalSTRS for accurate information about your retirement account

Happy new year! If one of your resolutions is to get your financial house in order, make sure you discuss your defined benefit pension and 403(b)/457(b) savings accounts with your most trusted source – CalSTRS.

Occasionally you may receive unsolicited emails offering appointments to review retirement options and accounts. The emails come from third parties with no affiliation to CalSTRS, but may contain references to CalSTRS and your employer. Often, these emails are sent because your employer hired the vendor to administer its 403(b) and 457(b) plans. While the sender may be offering a legitimate financial service, these emails can be misleading.

Only CalSTRS employees can provide you with accurate information regarding your CalSTRS Defined Benefit and Pension2® accounts. We’ve developed a checklist to ensure the person you’re speaking with is a CalSTRS employee.

CalSTRS authorized representatives:

  • Have an email address ending in
  • Can provide a CalSTRS ID badge or business card
  • Will never meet at your home
  • Do not sell insurance products
  • Have access to your CalSTRS or Pension2 account information and don’t ask you to provide it
  • Finally, if you’re attending a retirement planning meeting at school, CalSTRS does not provide refreshments at offsite events. Sorry!
