help you understand all of the CalSTRS benefits available to you.
Each workshop listed below was designed around the needs of educators at different career stages.

Ideal for early career educators
CalSTRS Fundamentals
Designed for educators 10-15 years away from retirement.
CalSTRS Retirement Check-Up
Intended for educators 3-5 years away from retirement.
Retirement Income Management
Vital for CalSTRS members age 45 and older, and retired members interested in developing a
post-retirement plan.
Are you a beginning teacher? This one-hour workshop, presented by a CalSTRS counselor or staff
member, introduces you to CalSTRS membership with a focus on the three benefits available to you.
You will receive a copy of Dan Otter’s book "Teach, and Retire Rich." This workshop is also a prime
learning opportunity for members who have never attended a CalSTRS workshop.

Beginning your retirement planning in earnest? This workshop gives you the essentials of CalSTRS
membership and helps you learn about your benefits as the foundation of a personal financial plan.
Presented by a CalSTRS counselor or staff member in 1½ hours or 2½ hours with an additional
presentation by a contracted financial planner. The financial planner covers the basics of planning
your financial future with a focus on the value of supplemental benefits.

If you’re getting close to retirement, CalSTRS Retirement Check-Up is for you. This 1½ hour workshop,
presented by a CalSTRS counselor or staff member, includes details on how your retirement benefit is
calculated, the retirement process and the required steps you need to take towards your CalSTRS retirement.

CalSTRS counselor or staff member, is designed for members getting ready to retire or those already
retired. Learn important retirement income planning concepts that will affect your retirement success;
the four potential sources of retirement risk; ways to identify your retirement expenses; the five
steps to preserving and protecting your retirement income.
