Controller Cohen takes seat on Teachers' Retirement Board
State Controller Malia M. Cohen has joined the Teachers' Retirement Board, one of four ex officio members who serves as a result of being elected to statewide office.
Cohen was elected state controller in November 2022, bringing a wealth of experience as a public servant. She served on the state Board of Equalization for four years and prior to that was president of the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco, where she also served as president of the San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System. The January meeting was her first meeting as a Teachers’ Retirement Board member.
Controller Cohen, who serves as chair of the board’s Audits and Risk Management Committee and sits on the Investment Committee, has a bachelor's degree in political science from Fisk University and a master's degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University.
