Getting started with CalSTRS

To start your career at CalSTRS, you must first establish a CalCareer account.

Your CalCareer account becomes your personal job search repository where you will create and store your state application and supporting documents.

Once your account is created, you will need to take and pass an open exam for the job classification(s) for which you meet minimum qualifications.

View all current CalSTRS job openings and online exam information.

To take an exam, click on the bulletin for the exam.

  • Read the bulletin carefully to ensure you meet the minimum qualifications.
  • Follow the detailed exam instructions and complete the exam.
  • You will be immediately notified of your exam results. If you are successful in the exam, the classification will appear in the Eligibilities tab of your CalCareer Account.

You can now apply for CalSTRS vacancies by following the instructions of the Job Announcement posting.

  • Review the details of the announcement carefully which will include completing and submitting a state application.
  • Your application will also appear in the Eligibilities tab under My Application Templates.
